In order to get the best from your firewood,
storing it well is essential. If not stored correctly,
once dry can re-absorb moisture, for example if
your logs were to be left outside with no protection
from the rain. Or on the other hand if left in
a building with no circulation of air, they can
become mouldy and rot much quicker.
Therefore by storing timber correctly, i.e. protected
from the rain by being covered, kept off the ground
so as not to absorb moisture from the earth, and
to allow air to flow between each log, mother
nature is the best helper when it comes to this,
the best air flow is wind, and storing your wood
so as to get as much sunlight as possible will
keep them dry and stop them rotting.
The best structure for storing wood is a Log
Store, log stores come in many shapes and sizes,
but if you stick to the advice above no matter
what it looks like you will have the best logs
for burning and will of coarse save yourself money,
as well stored logs will last longer than ones
that are wet, mouldy and rotting.
We generally use softwood for our stores, which
is pressure treated so as to protect the wood
from the elements and prolong the woods life.
We can however supply bespoke stores, usually
made from hardwood and slate materials, there
is a wide variety of hardwood available, but of
coarse the bespoke log stores are considerable
more expensive than the softwood range due to
the materials used. But if there is a special
site that deserves the best materials the end
result of a bespoke store is wonderful.
Generally we visit the customer and talk through
their requirements and consider the best site
for the store, we then take measurements and arrange
for a suitable time to come back and fit the log
store. We then go away and source the materials
and build the store at our yard, once we are satisfied
with the store we then deliver and fit it on the
agreed date and time. Generally an average log
store will take between 1-3 hours to fit, depending
on the site, it is not always necessary for the
customer to be home at the time of fitting but
sometimes we may need the use of an electrical
socket etc, so if possible the customer being
at home would be better. We understand that it
is not always possible to arrange a time during
the week, and we are always happy to fit the store
on weekends if needed.
The pictures on this page are a few of the log
stores we have made for customer, click
on them to view a larger picture,
also you will notice a few after they have been
filled with logs, and I’m sure you will
agree how tidy and attractive they look, and will
fit into almost any situation.
Prices vary depending on size, materials and
site, usually you can expect to pay around £260
to £300 for a basic average sized store,
but of course we will let you know how much you
will pay before we build or fit the store.
As with all our products, if you require any
more info or you would like to make an order,
just contact us and we will be more than happy
to help. |
